The Mobilizing Manager© - Episode 1

Active listening : the most important managerial skill and at the same time the most untapped one

I see, I interpret and I judge.

This is a dangerous way of considering what management is.

Philippe has no idea of what Rachel is thinking. He didn't listen to her and he didn't ask her a single question. Philippe merely interpreted and judged. This is why is is not a Mobilizing Manager©.

A Mobilizing Manager© demonstrates active listening skills. He asks open questions and doesn't interpret or judge his subordinates gestures or reactions.

My experience shows me that active listening is probably the most important managerial skill and at the same time the most untapped one.
